At least that's what I'm calling it... a Wampanoag Kitchen. The Wampanoag are the Indians that the first settlers met when they arrived at Plymouth, MA. The
Plimouth Plantation has a Wampanoag camp set up so you can see how they lived back at that time. This is a shot of what I call their "kitchen". I'm not sure that's what they called it, but this is the spot where the Wampanoag made and cooked food. They skinned animals here, cooked over a fire and made other things. For instance, in the foreground on the left you can see a wooden stick popping out of what looks like a tree trunk. This is where they made cornmeal. And, in the pot over the fire, they were cooking bean soup. It actually looked pretty good when we were there. I think everyone ate well back in the day and with Thanksgiving coming up, I'm sure all now will eat well! At least that's what we hope!
