Portraits?

I dunno.. A good skill to learn as a photographer is portraits, right?  I mean, if you can't take a good portrait, you aren't a good photographer, yes?  If true, I currently can't say I'm a good photographer.  I don't feel I have the chops to take a good portrait and don't have the gear.  However, if I had models such as this lovely lady that I shot while at the Formula 1 Expo a couple of months ago, it might be a little easier. She was with her friends and not really trying to pose for a photographer and I think it worked great.  But, if she was working with a photographer, would she be that photogenic?  Probably, but would she with me?  Hard to say... I prefer going out to shoot landscapes and cityscapes because I can just enjoy the scenery and take in the wonderful views.  However, when you take portraits, you have to know how to pose people and how to coax a natural look from them, not to mention lighting them, what lenses to use, etc...  Yeesh.  Maybe someday, but for now, I'll just stick with happy circumstances such as this. It turned out to be a nice photo and maybe someday I'll learn how to plan something that looks even better than this.  What do you think?
