Making a Blanket

I'm going back to Arizona for this post, specifically at the Cameron Trading Post on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona.  Our tour guide stopped here on the way to the Grand Canyon so we could do a little shopping.  Any souvenirs purchased here are non-taxed and all proceeds go to those on the reservation.

This lovely lady here is creating a blanket that will take approximately 6-8 months from start to finish.  It's all done by hand and she said she was commissioned by someone in California to make it.  As you can see, it's probably almost half done.  I asked her how long it would take to complete it and she said about another 3-4 months!  Wow!  She makes it one thread of yarn at a time and she said she comes up with the design off the top of her head! Incredible and beautiful!

I took this shot back in October so I'm guessing she's very close to being done now or already done and starting on another one.  I just wish I would've gotten her name.
